QuestionI have this ring that i bought from a friend, and on the inside of this ring, it has "IEG" with a circle around it, and right next to that it reads 14K, which i know that stands for 14 carat gold. But what does the "IEG" mean? and does that have anything to do with whether or not my diamonds are real or fake?
It also has markings on the inside, where the diamonds are mounted, but i can't read what it says. to me it looks like it's trying to tell me the total carat weight. but i have no idea, obviously that's why I'm asking you. Please let me know any info that you might have that would be helpful.
Respectfully,
Leslie
AnswerLeslie, the only markings I work with are quality marks, those marks indicating the metal and the quality of that metal. The circled IEG are likely a makers mark, having nothing to do with the diamonds or stones. Some rings sold by chain stores do indeed have a small stamp showing total weight of stones, usually a ct mark with tw. For example, a ring with 1/25 carat total of stones might be marked
.25ct tw. Such marks do not follow definite guidelines and can vary.
I do hope this will assist you in some way.
God Bless and Peace. Thomas.
