Gold Diamond Ring Without Markings: Real or Fake?

Question
I have an gold diamond ring, but there does not seem to be any markings or stamps on it. Could you tell me if it is real or imitation because it was expensive when it was purchased?

Answer
Greetings,

There is no law that a ring needs to be stamped with any markings at all.
It is usually done as a way of informing the maker and what it is made from, and most good jewellers will stamp their rings.
If its an old ring it may be that the shank has been replaced or stretched and thus lost the original stamps.
If its new, then it just doesn't have stamps.
If you are really concerned, then take it to a jeweller an have it appraised.
If this doesn't match with what you were sold, then take it back.
However, its unlikely that this will be the case, especially as you say it was costly and thus I assume was purchased from a reputable jeweller.

Hope this makes sense.
Good Luck, P
