Decoding Gold Ring Markings: 14k & Upside-Down Kite Diamond

Question
Hi there,
I have a gold ring that belonged to my grandmother. Inside are two markings. First is 14k (I understand this to represent 14karat). The second is a kite-shaped diamond with FL inside it, only that symbol is upside down.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hello Kathlyn and thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately I have not been able to find the mark you describe. There are a lot of "diamond or kite shaped" hallmarks some with either F or L but none with the combination. I would advise you to either take your ring to an estate jewelry appraiser in your area who may have more extensive resources or try one of the online appraisal services such as "What's It Worth TO You". You would have to have a good photograph of the item and the mark. They do charge a small fee. If you believe it may be a foreign hallmark there is a good site called "World Hallmarks" that has good visuals from other countries. If I do find anything similar, I will let you know. Sorry I couldn't help with this one.
