Jade Ring Discoloration: Understanding Heat Damage & Restoration
QuestionHi Peter - I recently helped my Mom by offering to take her rings to the safe deposit box prior to a trip... I work in a dental office - so we often clean our jewelry in our ultrasonic. Her rings were dirty, really dirty! Figured I'd clean them before storing them. I placed them in an ammoniated solution and the jiggler. I got busy and left them too long. A large jade cab has discolored around the edges - I suspect heat damage. OMG! Is there anything I can do? Thank you thank you thank you for any suggestions! Rebecca
AnswerHI REBECCA,I'M NOT SO SURE IT IS HEAT DAMAGE. IT COULD BE IT IS DYED JADE IF IT IS JADE. THERE ARE MANY SUBSTITUTES OUT THERE THAT COULD ALSO BE DYED. HAS THE COLOR LIGHTENED? OR TURNED ANOTHER COLOR? IF IT IS DYED THEN ALL YOU CAN DO IS REDYE IT. TO EVALUATE IT PROPERTLY I WOULD HAVE TO SEE IT.PETER
