Platinum Ring Settings: Value, Repurposing & Options
Question

I inherited 2 platinum ring settings. I wanted to give them to my daughter's fiance to use for an engagement ring and wedding band - he would purchase the diamonds to put in them. The rings are thin, but a jeweler we took them to said they could be melted down and made into one ring or just traded in on a new ring. The rings were new in the late 30's/early 40's. Is there any value in doing this or should they just start from scratch? They are on a tight budget so if this would cut down the price of starting new, it would be helpful to them.
Thanks!

Is this a picure of the right ear of a donkey???? just curious...
getting to your question, it probably would be a good idea to melt the rings down and use them towards a new ring, without actually seeing the ring I would guess the shanks are very thin and can wear out quickly....I dont think your jeweler misguided you.
all the best
