QuestionI need to know how hot precious and semi-precious stones can get before being damaged.
I would also like to know what temperature quartz(ROSE, RUTILATED, CITRINE, AMETHYST, ETC.) becomes molten?
I would really appreciate some help or to be pointed in the right direction.
Thank you!
AnswerI really am not an expert in this field of gems in terms of their
temperature tolerance... I'm sure each GeM has a different
temperature where it will break under heat...
for the most part I think Goldsmith's when repairing rings, take all the stones out to prevent them from cracking from the heat of a torch... you will have to look up
each stone to see its cracking temperature under heat... also as far as I know Rose citrine or quartz.. would never turn molten...
this would be more four lead or tin...
