Identifying Markings on Vintage Silver Ring: P Inside Circle & STER
Question
thrift store ring
I recently purchased a ring at a thrift store and am puzzled by the markings inside the ring. It is a fairly chunky silver ring with a large light lavender emerald cut stone setting. Marked inside the ring is a P, a circle or copyright sign, and then STER. What does this mean? Did I get a bargain, as I purchased it for $4.99?
AnswerHello Heidi and thank you for your inquiry. A P inside a circle was used by Irving M. Planick of New York City, c. 1934. They produced gold and sterling jewelry usually with gemstones. Your stone could be an amethyst. I'd say you got a bargain !
