Gold Chain Mark Identification & Value: Is It Real Gold?

I have a broken gold? chain. I would like to know if it is worth scrapping. The mark on it is: 1-4 G
HFR or HFB
Is it gold or plated?

Hi Paula, it is extremely hard to tell from the inscription alone on the necklace if it is solid gold... If there is no purity marking such as 10k, 14k, 18k, etc it probably is not real gold... I advise you to take it to a local reputable jeweler, is the only way to know for sure as they can test the metal using specialized equipment.
