Hydrothermal Emerald Polishing: Troubleshooting Scratches & Techniques

Question
Hi, I am starting to polish a Hydrothermal Emerald with a Ceramic Lap & 100,000 Diamond spray.  I prepped the lap with a little diamond oil and I am still getting scratches across the facets.  Is there a better technique?
Thanks

Answer
Hi Barry,

Yes there is.  You need to buy some cerium oxide ultralaps and some high quality cerium oxide powder.  The white type.  That polishes emerald very well.  The ultra-lap is a plastic type film
that goes over either a master lap or an old worn regular diamond lap.  You get the lap wet with water then place the ultra-lap over it.  The water binds it.  As the ultra lap wears down you can add the cerium oxide powder as a this paste to extend the life of the lap.

Here is a site where you can buy them.

Good luck,
