Identifying Natural Pearls: Expert Advice & Necklace Analysis

Question

Pearls
Hi Ron:

I have question for you, hopefully you can answer it.  I'm sure if pearls are an area of expertise for you, but here it goes.  I came across this necklace just about two weeks ago.  I've taken it to the same jewelry store twice in my local mall.  Both times, two different employees said that they weren't exactly sure what they kind of pearls where on this necklace.  The necklace is 925 silver, and there are only five of these pearls on the necklace.  They look like rice, or baroque natural pearls to me, but I really don't know - That's why I'm asking you.  What are these?  Are they natural pearls?  And if so, do you know what kind they are, and how much they may be worth (I know appraising is nearly impossible without physically seeing them, but a ball park estimate).  And if they are worth a good chunk of change, how should I go about selling them?  Auction?  Thank you for your time and consideration!

Answer
Hi Jeff ,
well actually  Pearl are not my speciality , Opal is , but they go well together and I know a little about them enough to answer your question  in part . These appear to be fresh water pearls. Natural .
I would  not think them to be too valuable. China produces an incredible amount of freshwater pearls , infact,  Ive seen so many freshwater pearls at my attendance of the last international gemshow , one would wonder how they all come to be sold ? anyway . Try ebay.... someone will love them .. hope hat helps  best regards Rod
