Sore Throat & Swallowing Difficulties After Tonsillectomy: Causes & Solutions

Question
Hello,
I am not sure if you can answer my question, as of there is no ears, nose and throat specialist on this board..
I am 34 years old, a couple years ago I had my tonciles out, They were abnormally large for one, and 4 times in 3 years I had abcess tonciles, with strep it was very bad, they had to drain it with a needle, I couldn't swallow etc.
Well since my tonciles were taken out, I have a harder time swallowing, mostly things like pills, which i take nightly, but they are small pills and they seem to get stuck in the back of my throat,   is this normal? is it because my tonciles are there to aid in moving the pills back?
Thank you for reading this

Answer
Hi Carrie,
This is not likely due to anything connected to your tonsills. Tonsillar tissue rarely grows back and even if they did, it would not inhibit swallowing. If the only problem you have is with small pills, I would just drink plenty of water when taking them.
