Vintage 925 Sterling Silver Crystal Pendant - Possible GM Maker Mark

Question

Sterling Crystal Oenda
Hi, hope you can help me.  I recently purchased this pendant and am very intrigued by it.  It is heavy 48.9 g, marked 925, and is large 3.5 inches including bale.  It has a makers mark, hard to see, I think it is GM.  It is almost too large to be worn as a pendant.  It looks unfiled in the inner sections so I would think it was cast.  The back is almost as interesting as the front with heart shaped and four leaf clover cut outs in the silver.  It is made in 2 levels with a open area between the front and back.  All the stone settings are open in back.  The person I bought it from said he acquired it from a Michigan estate and does not know anything about it.  I did not pay very much but would love to kno anything about it.  Any ideas including age and what it might be worth?  Thanks!

Answer
Hello Kathy and thank you for your inquiry. What an unusual pendant ! Large pendants like this were worn more in Europe than the states, I believe. The GM mark is not on my list of American Manufacturers except for Gorham Elmwood Manufacturers, known mostly for the silver tableware. They may, however, have made some jewelry items. The latest date I show for that GM mark is 1935.
Value would be difficult unless you could determine a genuine provenance except for the silver content. You might browse one of the online auctions such as ebay.com for something similar for a current market value. Just use their search area for "vintage sterling pendants".  Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance, but enjoy your pendant and good luck on your research !
