Converting Yellow Gold Jewelry to White Gold Wedding Bands

Question
I have an assortment of yellow gold rings, earrings and chains ranging from 10K to 23K. I would love to give these pieces to my daughter to make into her wedding band for her up coming wedding. The only problem is, she wears only white gold. Is it possible for her to be able to have it turned into white gold and a ring made, perhaps with some diamonds in it? Thank you so much for your reply.   Betty

Answer
Hi Betty, Great question. I get this one quite often. Not impossible but finding a jeweler to do this will be just about impossible. Most jewelers are not equipped to do this time consuming and very expensive process of mixing your yellow with nickel and other white metals to satisfy your desire. A precious metals refiner can do it but won't take such a small job.

Your best bet in my humble opinion is to simply trade in your yellow gold for its weight value at the current gold market per karat quality and apply some of the money you receive towards a fresh white gold design. Find a jeweler/designer who can design the ring, carve the wax and cast the new item to your specifications. You can even solder a little of the yellow gold on to the new ring if you have rings of the same millimeter width to spruce up the new ring which would be a nice reminder for her of your effort and love. You can even take the remainder of the money you receive and get her a nice wedding present!! Good luck.
