Converting White Gold to Yellow Gold: Plating & Durability

Hello Peter,

I received a ring from my grandma's estate, which is white gold. However, I do not wear white gold, only yellow gold. I was wondering if the ring which has 9 diamonds in its setting, could be dipped in yellow gold and would it be a difficult taks since the stones are mounted right next to each other? Also how long does this last? Thanks!

Yes, you can get it plated.
The outcome will depend upon the quality of the ring and how worn it is.
Plating wont improve it, only accentuate all the flaws.
The gold is in electrolyte which is liquid.

The plating will last dependent upon the thickness of plate, or the weight. This is determined by the length of time that it is plated.
The answer is really like asking how long is a piece of string. There are so many variables........how much you wear it, how heavy the plate is, what you do with your hands.
Yes it will be yellow, for a while........
