QuestionQUESTION: Hi, we have bought an art deco diamond cluster 18k white gold ring in the UK from a reputable jewellers, however it has no hallmark. They have offered to hallmark it but say this will devalue it as it will then be stamped with todays date and will put into question whether it is genuine 1920s. Is this true? should i be concerned? I love the ring and don't mind if its not hallmarked, as long as it is genuinely white gold and diamond as they say it is. Thanks
ANSWER: Hi Maddy, Yes do not have it hallmarked, it will devalue the rings worth. Enjoy it as it is.

QUESTION: Why is it that some art deco rings are missing a hallmark? Thanks so much for your speedy response :-)
AnswerHi again Maddy, Many reasons including the manufacturer not being registered with the Jewelry board, and out of Country manufacturer where it is not necessary, a rouge manufacturer who makes copies etc. Enjoy the ring though, it sounds lovely.
