Is My 14K Gold Jewelry Real? Identifying Fake Gold & Seller Responsibility

Question
hi i am wondering this. i had recently bought a ring that is suppose to be 14k solid white gold and was told it is real and stamped 14k. does fake jewelry have a 14k stamp on it and is it suppose to look very shiny. i haven't got it yet  but now im starting to worry it is fake because i got it from china. the guy actually sent me message saying it was real. if it is fake can i get them in trouble for lying to me as well. i hope this makes since. i just hope i didn't buy something fake.

Answer
Hi Lisa,

Fake jewelry is made to look like real jewelry so yes it can be stamed 14K and not be 14K. However if it is imported into this country with a fake stamp it will be confiscated and the company shipping it will lose their imprt license. White gold jewelry looks very shiny because it is all rhodium plated which makes it look like chrome. If you got it from a private seller in China then get it tested to see if it is 14K. A manufacturer wouldn't normally take the chance. If it proves not to be 14K then notify everyone you can that it is fake and especially U.S. Customs. Thanks for asking,

Peter
