Rose Diamonds: Understanding the Cut vs. the Stone - A Guide
QuestionMy mother has an old ring that belonged to my grandmother. She says the stone in the middle is a rose diamond. I have heard conflicting definitions of rose diamonds. I have heard that they are synthetic diamonds such as cubic zirconia and I have also been told that the term rose diamond refers to the cut of a real diamond not the stone itself. Please help me figure this out.
AnswerHI TEACHER,
A 'ROSE DIAMOND' USUALLY REFFERS TO THE CUT OF THE STONE. OLDER STONES WERE CUT IN WHAT IS KNOWN AS A ROSE CUT. IT HAS A FLAT BOTTOM AND A DOMED FACETED TOP.
THERE ARE SYNTHETIC DIAMONDS WHICH ARE IN FACT DIAMONDS ONLY MAN MADE AND THERE ARE LOTS OF DIAMOND SIMULANTS OR NATUAL AND SYNTHETIC STONES MADE TO LOOK LIKE A DIAMOND LIKE CUBIC ZIRCONIA, MOISSANITE, WHITE SAPPHIRE ETC. I'M SURE YOURS IS A 'ROSE CUT' DIAMOND.
