AnswerEdna, please let me know if you have received an answer previously for this question. If not, I am sorry for the slight delay. I sent it out a day ago and wonder what is going on. I just found the question again, marked as unanswered.
In any regard, thanks very much for the photo. In years past we did not have photo ability on allexperts and this helps a lot. Sure, the image is small and I cannot see the actual crack. However, the style and form of the ring is easily seen and this helps a lot in knowing how complicated service to your ring might be.
I suggest you fine a reputable local jeweler business with a bench jeweler working at the location. This way, the ring need not be sent out and you can possibly get a direct opinion of the repair needed from the person who knows best and is the person who will do the work.
A crack is generally a fairly easy repair. Near the stone area repair is somewhat more labor intensive but repairs can be done to eliminate the crack.
This answer is quite simple and brief but in this case is all needed. The repair should be very do-able. While you are at the store, have the stone setting checked for wear. It has been 7 years since the last work and the ring is 27 years old. I do not know if you regularly clean and check the ring or not. You did locate the crack, certainly. A general inspection is a good idea prior to having the crack repaired.
I believe all should go well. God Bless and Peace. Thomas.
