Repairing a Hollow Gold Pendant: Can It Be Filled with Gold?

Question
my question is this. i recently purchase something i wanted for the longest time. it is a pendent of jesus christ 14 karet gold 9.8 grams. it has a beatiful front however the back is hollowed out and is very light as too a couple of peices of tin foil light. can i take another peice of 14 k gold like a pendent or other peice of jewlery and melt it down to pour into the shell on the backside of my pendant? would it wreck the front features of the jesus pendant? would the origional jesus pendant bond with the new gold poured in it . my goal is to turn this nice hollow peice to a solid mold of jesus pure gold with sunstance. also can this be dont at any jewler and would it be best to have them do it if so ? thanks for your time

Answer
Hello Scott and thank you for your inquiry. I would definitely take this to a professional for restoration. Anytime you are dealing with precious metals and adding to or taking from an item, there is too much chance of destroying the original design. Check with your local museum for a referral to a restoration jeweler.  Sounds beautiful and good luck !
