Identifying Gold Ring Markings: Understanding 'FJ14K'

Question
I have a ring and I dont know how to tell what it is. Its gold, and it has a big diamond looking stone. the stamp in the ring is "FJ14K"...I figure I know what the 14K stands for...but does the "FJ" stand for anything?
Its a beautiful ring, and I have one that is fake, and when I hold the 2 side-by-side, it seems to be a big difference in the shine, and just the look and sparkle. The fake one shows a tint of other colors when light hits it a certain way. the other one, no matter how you turn it, its seems "white" and always "bright"...cant find the right word to fit..."lustorious".
anyway, thanks for any help you can give on this.

Answer
G'day Pennie and many thanks for your query

The FJ is simply a Maker's Mark or Store ID or design stamp and doesn't make any difference to the Value. It is there just for identification.

The problem is there is NO central WORLD registry of Maker's Marks, because anyone in the world can make jewelry and stamp it.

You are on the right track to compare a known gemstone with the other. That's what the trade does too - so well done.

Your local FRIENDLY jeweler should have a diamond probe instore and usually (it's a goodwill thing) will instantly test the gemstone for you to confirm if it is - or isn't a diamond. If they won't do that for a future potential client - then find another one who will.

Once you have established if it is real or not - That's when you need to get an appraisal done. If you don't want to spend a lot, then the ONLINE Jewelry Appraisal Center is your best option. It is at: http://www.online-jewelry-appraisals.com/

Hope this helps...
