Uterine Mass Growth: Understanding Causes and Removal Options

Question
My ob/gyn found a large mass in my uterus August 06.  We did an ultrasound and bloodwork and she said it is not cancerous.  Now a year later she said it has grown and wants to remove it.  I am hesitate because I feel great all the time.  I was not aware of its presence until she told me about it.

Answer
There are many different causes of a "mass" in the uterus. These may include but are not limited to polyps, fibroids, adhesions, hyperplasia (with or without abnormal cells) or cancer. A complete evaluation is therefore important and management is dependent upon the results of these tests. Even though you feel well, it is important to investigate further in some cases.
