PCOS and Amenorrhea: Understanding Irregular Periods and Treatment Options

Question
Hi Chirsty!!
I am a 35 y.o female with PCOS.I have not had a period since March 2008 and this really bothers me because my weight went from 265-297 since March ( my weight tends to go up when my periods stop) So since then I have been trying to have a period...My M.D. put me on Yaz and Actos and this made me very emotional and crazy and still no periods... Then I had a round of Provera and still no period .I dont want any more meds because I feel this is masking my symptoms and I need my hormones balanced....I just started doing a low glycemic diet and exercising which is discouraging because after 2 weeks I lost 2 lbs...Do u have any recommendation of herbs that will balance my hormones so that I can have a period...Because for me when I have a period my weight goes down and I feel better. I had acupuncture to help with my anxiety and well being..I was reading about Macafem, (What do u think?)  I really need to have a period ASAP because it will cause me to calm down and not freak out about it. Please help me I'm desperate and I feel like I have no where else to turn. I'm depressed, and out of options. What can I take to induce a period and balance my hormones? Thank U so much for ur time. Sorry if I sound psychotic but this has been a long frustrating road for me. Thanks for ur help:)

Sharon

Answer
I would highly recommend making an appointment with a Reproductive Endocrinologist or a Endocrinologist instead of a regular MD. An RE is a Dr that specializes in female reproductive hormones, and a regular endocrinologist specializes in all hormones. Either one will be able to run tests and tell you exactly what is going on with your periods and how to correct the problem. I do not know of any herbs that actually work for PCOS that are safe and I would recommend at this time.
