Missing Period After Birth Control: Causes & What To Do
QuestionI am 26 years old. I have been on the pill since I was 20. I took my last pink pill this past sat so I should of gotten my period sun, mon or tues but I still have not gotten it. I do feel cramps however. I did have sex last week, but we also used a condom. This is not the first time I have missed a period or had no period, when this happend before I had two days where my period was an irregular color and very clumpy. My doctor told me that this might happen sometimes but I am concerned that this has happened twice now. Is it rare for this happen more than once? Should I find a new pill to take?
AnswerWhen you are taking birth control pills, you really don't get an actual "period" but rather a "breakthrough bleeding" when you come to the placebo pills (cycle day #22-28). It is very common to sometimes get a very light bleeding or no bleeding at all when you finish your pack. You are still well protected against pregnancy and do not have to use a condom in any case. Just keep a careful record of the first day of every bleeding you have. On the average, you should get some bleeding every month, unless you take the new Seasonale pills, which give you bleeding once every 3 months. Don't worry.
