Toothache During Pregnancy: Risks & Concerns

Question
Hello! I have had a terrible tooth ache for about a month or so and have been taking prescription painkillers--loratabs and hydrocodone to kill the pain.  Anyway, i just found out i was 7 weeks pregnant! I was obviously not expecting this, but VERY excited!  But i am very concerned that i may have caused problems from taking the pills.  I have always heard not to take these pills while pregnant, but cannot seem to find out anything about exactly what problems it could cause the baby.I quit taking the pills yesturday when i found out i was pregnant.  I am just very worried that i could have caused my baby problems.  Can you tell me more about this?  Also i cannot see my dentist until Monday, so can you advise me on what medications are safe to take?  My doctors office told me to try to stick with tylenol only but the pain just gets worse.  Thanks for answering my question if you can help!

Answer
Hi Rhiannon,
actually you really have to take alot of doses and I mean alot to really hurt the baby, however from this point on do ask your dentist and tell him you are pregnant and let him make that decision, if  he won't get your ob to make a list of medications you can take during the pregnancy.
