Pregnancy with an IUD: Risks, Options & Safety

Can this be possible: getting pragnant with an IUD? and if so can my baby survive this pregnancy? If I have the IUD removed is this safe? or should I keep it in until the baby is safe? What are my options? Thank you so much.

The answers to each of your questions is "yes". You can, indeed, become pregnant with an IUD (less than 1% risk). We recommend that you have it removed as soon as you know that you are pregnant. If it cannot be removed (if it is imbedded in the uterus, etc) we can safely leave it in the uterus. It usually will not cause any problems for the baby, although it does increase the risk of misarriage.
