Effective Toothache Relief During Pregnancy: Safe Medications & Remedies

Question
WHAT KIND OF MEDICATION IS BEST RECOMMENDED TO TAKE FOR A TERRIBLE TOOTHACHE? I HAVE TRIED GARGLING  MOUTHWASH, PEROXIDE,BUSHING MY TEETH SEVERAL TIMES,TYLENOL,CHILDRENS TYLENOL,ETC.WHAT IS THERE LEFT TO DO?

Answer
Dear Nicole,

If you are pregnant, you will need to contact your OB doctor for further medications which he/she will approve for you. The only over-the-counter medication I really can recommend for use in pregnancy is acetaminophen (Tylenol). Brushing too often and peroxide can actually inflame the area even more, so I would refrain from those remedies. You might try Anbesol - a topical analgesic used for teething in babies, but even that I would want you to clear through your OB first to know what limitations he/she would set for use. You always can use ice packs to your mouth to decrease swelling as well.

If you contact your dentist for assistance, make sure to let him know you are pregnant and how far along you are.

I hope this has helped in a very small way.  :-) I know - tooth aches are the worst!
