Missed Period, Negative Pregnancy Tests: Possible Causes & What to Do

Question
Can you ever get pregnant and never have any HCG detected in the urine?
I have now missed 2 periods in a row, but all my home pregnancy tests are negative.  I have been regular (like clockwork) for 37 years now.  And I have two kids - so I remember this horrible all-day nauseousness too.
I went to the dr back at 5 days late for my first period and the urine there was negative, blood work also came back negative and ultrasound at 10 days late also showed nothing out of the ordinary.
So now that I've missed my second period, I called and the nurse said they'd prescribe provera, but what if I'm pregnant?!  Shouldn't they do another ultrasound to be sure?  Has anyone ever heard of someone not having a positive test, but actually been pregnant?  I have all the symptoms - nauseousness, sore boobs, peeing and sleeping all the time.  So what could it be?
THANKS for any information or advice!

Answer
If you have missed two periods, and do not have a positive pregnancy test, you are not pregnant. If you were pregnant, there would definitely be HCG in your blood and urine. If you have missed two periods, the proper treatment is Provera 10mg twice a day for 5 days and you should get your period within 10 days. (Provera used to be used as a pregnancy test.) Don't worry.
