Copper IUD & Pregnancy: Understanding Contractions & Labor
QuestionI am 35 weeks pregnant with a copper IUD still inside my uterus. So far everything has progressed well. This is my 3rd pregnancy. I never experienced Braxton Hicks contractions in my first two pregnancies. But, with this one they are sometimes down right painful. I also tend to have 1-2 every hour. I wanted to know if the contractions are painful because it is my 3rd pregnancy, or does the IUD have anything to do with it? I was also wondering if the IUD could make labor more intense? My menstrual cramps were always pretty strong with the IUD.
Any help is appreciated! thanks
P.S. My doctor knows all about the contractions and said it is nothing to be concerned about, but did tell me to take it a bit easier.
AnswerDear Julie,
I concur with your doctor. :) And yes, I would suspect that the presence of the IUD may be playing a part in the intensity, especially since you have said that they also affected the intensity of menstrual cramping. Do try and take your activity level down a notch. You don't have much longer to go and now is a great opportunity to keep your feet up and relax! :)
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
