Dizziness and Fainting During Pregnancy: Causes & What to Do
QuestionI am 4 month's pregnant and worried that I might hurt my baby or myself, before I got pregnant I would get dizzy if I stood up to fast or sometimes even if I didnt get up fast and I would sometimes pass out but not very often but it seem's like now that I'm pregnant it is much worse, everytime I stand up I get dizzy and sometimes while I'm sitting I will feel very light headed but what got me really worried was last month while I had been standing for a half an hour I passed out in the office if it hadnt been for someone standing next to me grabbing me I wouldve fell forward on my stomache instead I fell on my back, they said I had my eyes open all the time but I wouldnt move and I was out for about a minute, when I woke up I couldnt see very well cause everything was very bright and I couldnt hear cause there was a loud rushing noise in my ears after I got up I almost passed out again so I had to hurry and sit down for about a hour after passing out my whole body felt numb and couldnt hear as well. is this just worse cause I"m pregnant ? should I be worried ? please get back to me when u have time thank you
AnswerEither you have a low hemoglobin and need iron supplementation (which is common during pregnancy) or you may have a seizure disorder ("Petite mal") which can give you spells such as you described. I would definitely call your obstetrician and describe what occurred, get a blood test to see if you are anemic, and make sure that you take your vitamins and iron supplement (at bedtime is the best time to take iron). If this persists, a full evaluation must be made by your doctor.
