Albendazole and Fertility: Risks and Recommendations - Expert Advice
QuestionI am in Afghanistan, and I was just prescribed albendazole at 400mg in the morning for two days. I have been trying to get pregnant and will try again starting the 15th of this month when I go home. I took the meds yesterday the 6th and today the 7th. The doctor who prescribed says there shouldn't be any issue since I am not pregnant yet and it is before pregnancy, but I read online to wait a month. I don't want to wait but I don't want to harm or defect my baby, what is true? Are the drugs taken for only two days still in my system at that time? Or are there just NO studies on the effects on early stages of pregnancy? A lot of things are said because there are no studies, please help.
AnswerDear Candice,
Unfortunately, there really aren't adequate studies to answer this definitively. You really will have to rely on the medical knowledge of your doctor and trust in his experience in this area.
Hope that helps to ease your mind a bit. I wish you well.
