QuestionMy name is Christina, I am 24yrs old from West Palm Beach,
FL. In 2006 I was pregnant from my boyfriend of 6yrs, i was
20yrs old.Two weeks after finding out I was pregnant I had a miscarriage. It was hard for me and Jason to go though.
After the miscarriage we tried to get pregnant again, and we
have been trying for more than a year. We have no luck and I
am really upset. Because we are not married i'm a little embarrassed to talk with my doctor about this issue. I Was
wondering if you could tell me what I could do. Sometime I
have these pains in my lower stomach. And even sometimes
when it's not hurting if I press it it will hurt. I have
talked to me OB about it and he never really gives me a
answer about it. Can you help me tell me what to do?
AnswerHello Christina from the U.S.,
If you don't feel comfortable having this discussion with your current gynecologist, then find one that you feel comfortable with. We hear everything there is to hear, and our job is NOT to give moral judgements or criticize, but to help the patient in any way that we can.
If you have not been able to get pregnant after a year of trying, then you are technically in the "infertile" category and should undergo a basic infertility evaluation (eventhough you have gotten pregnant in the past). Things can change with time and maybe something changed to make it more difficult, and maybe it is something easy to overcome with treatment. Delaying the evaluation only delays getting pregnant. With the stomach/pelvic symptoms you have been having, it could be a disorder called endometriosis. That would require a laparoscopy to find and treat. Your gynecologist should be able to do this for you, but an infertility specialist should be able to do it as well.
