Pelvic Size and Induction Options: Cervidil, Pitocin, and C-Section

Question
I am scheduled to start a cervadil induction in a few days and then be given the option of inducing with  pitocin or going straight for a c section. this will be my first child and my Dr is giving me a 50- 75% chance of having to have a c section because he believes that my pelvis is too narrow from front to back to accomodate the baby's head. i may be given a brief ultrasound to take comparitive measurements of head/ pelvis before choosing. i would really like to atleast TRY to have a vaginal birth but have researched and it seems to be more likely to have to have a c section with an induction anyway. i would like to know what info you can give me on these subjects and wheter or not cervadil alone can put me into a fast, active labor? thanks

Answer
Hello Vanessa- yet another woman caught in the web of sections for convenience. A pelvis CANNOT be properly assessed until you are in FULL active labor. If you are truly determined to give yourself the BEST chance to deliver vaginally, go to a website called Nancy Wainer Cohen - either email her for help OR( I really suggest you do BOTH) order the two books offered there- Open Season and The Silent Knife. Nancy is the TRUE expert on sections and their prevention. The other positive thing you could do is seek out a local midwife, have a consultation with her and you may consider leaving your dr and using a midwife. Hope that helps-Cheri.
