Understanding a Small Placenta at 12 Weeks: Causes & Exercise

Question
I'm 35 yrs old & almost 12 weeks along.  I just had an ultrasound yesterday
where I was told the baby's measurements were fine but my placenta is in the
5th percentile- which sounds terrible to me.  I asked what causes it and what
can I do and basically didn't get an answer.  From reading online today, it
seems one of the causes may be lack of oxygen.  This makes sense to me B/c
I am constantly out of breath since conception.

What type of exercise should I do and how often to help my circulation and
give the placenta and baby more oxygen?

Answer
You should not do any type of exercise, especially those that raise HR.

The placenta is a circulatory organ, and it's size determines it's functional capacity, or it's ability to transfer oxygen to your developing baby. Since your placenta is small, it's ability to exchange oxygen is limited. Therefore, you should not engage in ANY stressful activity.

Please consult your OBGYN and get her advise on what activities are considered safe/unsafe and follow these guidelines.
