Postpartum C-Section Pain: Understanding and Relief

Question
I am 38 and had a cesarian section august 21 for my first child apparently my hips were too narrow and I would not dilate after 17 hours of labor.  All went well and I was feeling better 7-10 days after.  My uterus started shrinking and about the 11-12th day I started having sharp pains only on one side of my stomach.  To describe it would be the feeling of muscles that have been stitched together and being torn apart.  I told my ob but he just agreed it was a muscle that had been stitched, but offered no relief.  The pain is enough to bring me to tears if I move or turn in a particular way.  Is there any relief or will this just go away?

Answer
Hopefully, the pain from the muscles will go away by your six week checkup. Try a heating pad and Tylenol or Percocet to relieve the pain. You may have developed some adhesions as well. If the pain persists (and is enough to cause tears) call your doctor again and tell the doctor exactly what you feel. You may need a sonogram to see what is going on.
