Yeast Infection in Pregnancy: Safe Treatment Options & Alternatives
QuestionHi,
I'm starting my fifth month of pregnancy now.On my last visit my doc found out I have yeast infection and prescribed Terazol 7 (0.4%) for 7 days(vaginal cream). Now as to my knowledge, yeast infection has no adverse effect on the pregnancy,I'm reluctant to use the medication,at the same time this infection is annoying me too.Because,i don't want to use any medication if possible, during my pregnancy. Is there any other way in which I can reduce the infection?Or is this medication is perfectly safe?thank you
AnswerThere is not much that you can do to eliminate the yeast infection without using medication. Although there have not been any reports of any congenital or harmful effects of
terazol on pregnancy or the fetus, it may be safer to use Monistat-7 cream (over the counter). This also has not been associated with an increase in congenital malformations. In addition, you can try sitz baths to alleviate any itching. I would not avoid using the cream. We have used Monistat for many years with no adverse effects to the baby.
