The signs of urinary tract infection are frequency of urination, urgency (the feeling that you have to urinate, but when you get to the bathroom, nothing or very little comes out) or burning on urination. If you have any of these symptoms, you should go for a Urine culture and sensitivity. If that shows that you have more than 100,000 colonies of any bacteria, you can be treated with antibiotics and the symptoms will disappear.

You should NEVER douche. Douching kills off some of the organisms that live in the vagina and are helpful in maintaining the environment of the vagina. The vagina will remain clean with normal showers. Do not ever douche. No exceptions.
AnswerA urinary tract infection is an infection of the bladder and is not an infection in the vagina. If a culture of your urine shows that you have greater than 100,000 colonies of a bacteria (usually E. coli), the growth of bacteria is in the bladder, not in the vagina. If the culture shows bacteria, then a "sensitivity" will be done and an antibiiotic can be picked that will eradicate the infection. Once the infection is cured (if you do have an infection), you will stop having the symptoms (frequency of urination, loss of urine, etc). You do not have a vaginal infection unless you have a foul smelling or cheezy discharge from the vagina. DO NOT DOUCHE, EVER. Just clean yourself in the shower or in the bathtub.
