MMR Vaccination and Fertility: Potential Concerns & Seeking Information

Question
I am 39 years old with 2 children (15 and 13) and the first day of my LMP was 03/25/04.

I was immunized with MMR on 04/02/04 in order to be able to proceed with infertility treatments.  I became pregnant shortly thereafter (even though we practiced birth control for the 1st time in 2 years as we have been trying to conceive for 2 years!)

I cannot seem to find any concrete evidence that this is a major cause for concern but also cannot get any firm reassurances from any healthcare professionals.  Please advise!

Thank you.

Answer
We do not recommend that you conceive within 6 weeks from the taking of a Rubella vaccine (MMR). If your last period started on March 25, you would have ovulated around April 7. Although there is a theoretical risk to the fetus if you had the MMR shot within the first 6 weeks of pregnancy, there is no documented evidence of any congenital anomalies or ill effects to the fetus in any pregnancy where MMR was given. I would not consider terminating any pregnancy with a scenario such as your. Everything will most probably be fine.
