Itching Around Vagina: Possible Yeast Infection or Other Causes?

Question
Hello ,

My question is dealing with itching around the vrinia. It is where I itch outside but sometimes it feels like it is in the inside. Lately i have been using vagesl cream to help with the itching but it only seems to help a little bit. I have never had a yeast infection before and don't really know what the signs for that is. The only kind of infection i have had is a urinary track infection. I just had one about a week ago and i don't know if the itching could be part of that. Telling me if that infection is over. I really don't know what is happening. If you could help me out i will be greatful. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Jessica

Answer
If you took any antibiotics for the urinary tract infection, you may have developed a yeast infection. Usually, a yeast infection is manifested by a white, cheesy discharge with intense itching. It does not have any odor. It will respond to Monistat-7 cream or one pill (Diflucan 150mg) that can be prescribed by your doctor. The pill works well and is taken only one time. The cream is taken every night for seven nights. Another cause for vaginal itching can be a bacterial infection, which usually is yellow or green and has a foul odor to it. It can be treated with Metrogel or Cleocin cream. The third most common vaginal inifection is cause by a parasite (Trichomonas) and is usually frothy gray and also itches. Trichomonas can be treated with Flagyl pills for you and your boyfriend, since Trichomonas is sexually transmitted. However, I believe that you most likely have a yeast infection. If there is any doubt, have it checked out by a gynecologist.
