QuestionSo asking for an HSG or a salpingography is not something I need to worry about? If the
likelihood of another ectopic is huge I am fairly certain that my husband does not want to risk
anything happening to me for a baby. I know that my doctor has already said that as soon as I
get the next positive pregnancy test we're to immediately get serial beta hcg's and then an early
ultrasound and an ultrasound until a heartbeat is identified. Since I'm not going there until the
29th I want to just make sure I've got all my thoughts organized as I was prepared for the
miscarriage, but to wake up and find out nope it's ectopic was a little overwhelming. Thank you
for the information and reassurance it is greatly appreciated.

AnswerYou do not have a "huge" risk for another ectopic. The risk is just slightly more than someone who never had an ectopic. It would be higher if you had a history of pelvic inflammatory disease or some infection of your tubes. There is no reason to have a HSG unless you have difficulty in conceiving. I agree with your doctor that, as soon as you miss a period, and get a positive pregnancy test, follow it with serial Beta HCGs and an early ultrasound. Sonograms will only show an empty gestational sac with no heartbeat until after 6 weeks gestation, so it is futile to take a sonogram prior to 6 weeks from the first day of your last period. However, I'm sure that your doctor will be vigilant. Please do not worry.
