Flashing Spots in Early Pregnancy: Causes & What to Do

Question
I am 11 weeks pregnant and several times in the last couple of weeks I have seen flashing spots that have lasted for at least an hour. They make me dizzy and they make me feel faint. I asked my doctor about them a few days ago, and she said that this early they are not related to the pregnancy, but everything I've read says that this is a warning sign of a possible complication. Should I continue to be concerned or is this truly not related to my pregnancy?

Answer
Hello Karissa. It could be related to the pregnancy, but it does not mean anything is really wrong. Your blood pressure is getting much lower due to the hormones of pregnancy and that can make you dizzy and faint feeling- which goes along with seeing spots. To avoid future toxemia problems you MUST be sure to eat LOTS of protein- that means fish, meat, eggs, low fat cheese and dairy, chicken, almonds, etc. Nibble on some kind of protein every two hours all day long. It will help you to feel satisfied and NOT crave the BAD stuff like candy, fast foods, junk, sugar etc. Hope that helps- Cheri.
