Pesticide Exposure in Early Pregnancy: What Are the Risks?

Question
I am 6 weeks and 5 days pregnant with my second child, and I am going crazy with concern over the fact that 3 days ago I had about 10 minutes of close exposure to a lawn pesticide used to kill crab grass.  I was watering the lawn for some friends who were out of town and did not know that their lawn was going to be treated.  I watered it shortly after it was applied (not realizing it had been applied), and about an hour later spent about 10 minutes moving the sprinklers around.  I smelled something very strong (I probably re-activated the chemicals by getting them wet), but it didn't occur to me that the lawn people had been there until I left.

I have tried to find out from the company what the chemical is and they were supposed to get me the specifics yesterday, but they didn't call me back.  They did say that "It is very safe" and that I "am in the clear."  That isn't very reassuring to me given everything that I have read on the internet regarding pesticide exposure in the first trimeseter.

I go to my OB this Thursday, but in the meantime I am sick with worry.  I know that my exposure was short, but from what I've read, even small doses can be very damaging to the fetus.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Thank you!

Answer
Unless you actually swallowed the pesticide, it will cause no danger to the baby or the pregnancy even if you inhaled the fumes of the pesticide. You can get a bit nauseated from the odor, but it will not cause any problem for the pregnancy. Don't worry.
