Pregnancy After Miscarriage: Risk Reduction & Underwater Birth Information
QuestionHi, my name is Noelle, I am 20 years old, and have just recieved the news that I am pregnant.(My fiance and I have been trying for several months- we are both very excited!) I had two questions for you. Two months ago, I miscarried very early in pregnancy. I am about five weeks along this time, and was wondering what can I do to reduce the risks of it happening again? Also, I read that your specialty is in underwater delivery;it has always fascinated me, and I would love to learn more about it, but am finding it hard to get more detailed information. Thankyou.
AnswerHello Noelle- congratulations. There is really nothing you can do to prevent another spontaneous abortion if that is what is going to happen. We really should never interfere with the loss of a pregnancy under 12 weeks because they most often happen for good reasons. All YOU can do is eat only the BEST of nutrition and maintain a positive attitude. The best way to find out about water births in your area is to find your local midwives. Interview a few of them and I'm sure you will find that you much prefer the care they provide over what a dr. provides. The midwives are the most experienced with water births and will be great guides for you. You might also enjoy a site called BirthLove. Also, read these two books- The Complete Book of Pregnancy and Childbirth by Sheila Kitzinger(she has also written a book on waterbirth) AND Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way by Susan McCutcheon. Hope that helps- Cheri.
