Progesterone Levels in Early Pregnancy: What's a Healthy Range?
QuestionHi Dr. Rappaport,
I just finished my second month of 100mg's clomid and my progesterone level one week after ovulation was 41.2 and I just found out that I am pregnant. I have had two previous miscarriages thus am taking progesterone supplements and high amounts of folic acid and baby asprin.
I was wondering if you could tell me if 41.2 is too high and may indicate that something is wrong or if this number is good. I have had very little to no cramping today and have not felt as much nausea, and my breasts are not as sore, so of course I am already worried that the embryo has stopped growing and this is why my symptoms have lessened. My OB is out of town until next week, so I thought I would try asking you what you think. I have not had HCG done yet, so I only have the progesterone and a positive pregnancy test to go on. Thank you, Heidi
AnswerYou have an elevated progesterone due to the supplemental progesterone you have been taking. As long as the progesterone is over 10, you do not have to worry. There is nothing to do in any event. If you are not having any bleeding or cramps, it is a good sign. Good Luck.
