QuestionI stopped nursing about 2 weeks ago and still haven't got my period yet. I
nursed for 4 months. I wanted to start a regular pill (not the mini pill) and
wondered if I can start at anytime or if I need to wait for my period to come... If
so, how long can it take for me to get it again?
Thanks!
AnswerThe regular pill can be started at any point...IF you are not pregnant. It is usually recommended at a minimum that you use alternative conception for at least two weeks, then take a pregnancy test with negative results, before starting the pill mid-cycle. Otherwise, it is best to wait for the first day of your period so that you know for certain you are not pregnant. This could take up to 8 weeks from the time of weaning, depending on how long it takes your body to regroup and begin hormone production again.
