QuestionI had a D&C exactly six weeks ago for a missed miscarriage - I thought I was 12 weeks but baby stopped developing after 6 weeks.
I took a two pregnancy tests today because I was feeling a little nauseaus and my husband and I have had unprotected sex since the D&C - and both of the were positive.
What do you think the likelyhood is that I am actually pregnant and not just showing positive because of residual pregnancy hormones.
AnswerDear Amber,
More than likely you have become pregnant again. Typically hCG levels will come back down to non-pregnant levels approximately 3-4 weeks after a lost pregnancy. Now, this can be a bit longer depending upon how the loss occurs and how high the levels were at the time of the loss. Many doctors will continue to check hCG levels after a pregnancy loss to ensure they return back to <5.0.
However, my suggestion would be to go and get a quantitative blood pregnancy test (or serum beta hCG) done to get an actual amount of hCG in your bloodstream. That will help to determine whether this is a new pregnancy also.
I hope this information has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well!
