Factor V Leiden & Pregnancy: Risks, Symptoms & What to Expect

Question
I dont know if you can help, but I am 4weeks/3 days pregnant.  This is my second pregnancy (the first ending in mc at 6 wks).  I have Factor V and I am terrified that I am going to miscarry again.  How common is it to miscarry with this condition.  Also, what pains are normal?  I am having lower abdominal cramping and I think some pink tinge every once in awhile.  I did have implantation bleeding for 1 day 4 days ago. Thank you

Answer
Hi Natalie,

congratulations on your pregnancy!

I am sorry about your previous miscarriage. I am glad that at least you got your problem diagnosed; although you are considered high risk for pregnancy due to the Factor V, there are medicines that can help; please ask your doctor about Lovenox or Heparin. I dont blame you for being scared of another miscarriage, though. It is very scary.

I would call your doctor about the cramping and tinges of pink- usually that wouldnt be so abnormal, and it does NOT mean anything is wrong now, but just keep your doctor advised of it. With pregnancy- ANY pains can happen! There is always a risk of miscarriage, but please try to not focus on the negatives. I know this is easy for me to say- just try to keep yourself healthy, happy, eat well, drink plenty of fluids.

Good luck- I hope things work out for you! I hope this has helped give some of the info you needed.
