Early Pregnancy Concerns: Spotting After Coming Off Birth Control
QuestionHello. I am 29 years old and I have no children. The first day of my last period was November 26th, where I started with a very light spotting and then fully started bleeding on Nov. 27th. I have been off of the pill for a whole year now. My husband and I have been using condoms, for the most part. I have been tracking my cycle and when I am pretty sure I am not fertile, we don't use one. My cycles have been about 38-40 days long and my periods last about 8 days or so. I have very heavy bleeding and bad cramps during my periods. On Dec. 30th, I had very light brown spotting. It lasted for about 24 hours. I thought it was my period but it caught me by surprise b/c I wasn't supposed to start until about Jan. 4th. I have not had any bleeding since then. I started having sore breasts 3-4 days ago and sometimes have felt nauseous. I took a home preg. test on Jan. 6th but it was negative. Could I be pregnant and it was too early to tell? When should I test again? My main concern right now is, I am taking an antibiotic for a sinus infection and I am afraid that I may be harming the baby if I really am pregnant. Also, I want to start taking the necessary precausions if I am.
Thank you for your time and advice.
AnswerIf you had some bleeding on December 30,you have to assume that was the start of your period (even though it lasted only 24 hours)because it was 32 days after your previous period.. I would not take a pregnancy test until January 28, to be sure. You can safely use antibiotics for a sinus infection during pregnancy. Just avoid the use of Tetracycline.
