Early Pregnancy Symptoms & Miscarriage Concerns: A Personal Account

Question
I am 25 and I have one child who is 1...the first day of my lmp was Jan. 14.
On saturday Feb 12... i took a home preg test which was postive... i kind of suspected that, becasue I had been dryheaving and vomiting, and was very tired lately (all of which i had with my other child) , but i was not really "late" as some would say, I have a short cycle due to endometriosis...so i could have been late.
Anyways, prior to saturday's positive test, i had been spotting, beginning on thursday.
Now i began to bleed late saturday night early sunday morning with cramping... but i still had another faint positive test...i then went to the ER sunday night because i started to pass some tissue and had heavy cramping...where i was told to go home after a negative urine test that i was just having my period and was refused a blood test
Monday I went to my OBGYN they did a quant. blood test which showed my HCG levels as 1.6 and they told my I had a early miscarriage...now today thursday i went to a different obgyn (doesnt matter the reson)  and now he says I didnt have a miscarriage and that i was never pregnant...
I called my old clinic that i saw monday and they said that yes i probably was pregnant and did miscarry...
sorry to be so longwinded...it's just that this is so complicated... i have been grieving this lost baby and now everyone is going back and forth with me on this... i am utterly confused and anguished..,.this was a much wanted child.  I just wish i knew what happened to me.  I hope you can help me...the first clinic i went to did mention a chemical pregnancy...that just sounds so horrible as if their existence was meaningless...
by the way all of my pregnancy symptoms have disappeared...and any other time we thought that maybe we were pregant and took an hpt they were always negative. so i am not one of those women who get false positves all the time...trust me i've taken plenty of hpt's before... i probably should have invested in some of those companies...
please help

Answer
If you had a positive pregnancy test on February 12 (when you were two days late for your period), and then started spotting, cramping, and passing tissue, it is most likely that you did, indeed, suffer a miscarriage. If the pregnancy test in the Er was negative, you probably had a "blighted ovum" or "chemical pregnancy". An HCG value of less than 5 is considered a "negative" test. Since your symptoms have disappeared and the bleeding has stopped, you have to assume that you did have a miscarriage. You should wait for one normal cycle and then start trying to conceive again. Miscarriages occur in 15-20% of every pregnancy. There is nothing you can do to cause a miscarriage and there is nothing you can do to prevent a miscarriage. If the fetus never really forms, but there is a slight elevation of HCG, it is considered to be a "blighted ovum" or "chemical pregnancy". If the fetus has formed and then stops growing, it is called a "fetal demise" or "missed abortion". I'm sorry you went through that.
