Understanding Post-Miscarriage Bleeding & Endometrial Shedding
QuestionI had a miscarriage about a month ago. I wrote to you and you were very helpful, but now I am concerned about something that my dr. seems to think is not a big deal. After I lost the baby, I had light bleeding for about 3 weeks and then all of a sudden I started bleeding heavy with very large blood clots so my dr. performed a d&c. He sent some "small irregular brownish pieces of tissue" to a pathologist and the diagnosis came back as "irregular shedding of endometrium, and polypoid endocervicitis". It also stated that there was no evidence of molar changes or neoplasia and No retained products of conception. My dr. says that this is not a problem. That when I started bleeding heavy it was just a regular period, just heavier than normal. He said as soon as I stop bleeding now my husband and I can begin to try and get pregnant again. My dr. has ran many blood tests to find why i keep miscarrying, but he says I am completely normal. I have miscaried twice. My question is : Is the diagnosis of the pathology report "normal" or should I get treatment? Also, can it cause me to miscarry again if I dont get treatment? Thank you for your time.
AnswerThe pathology report is normal and, if all the products of conception were removed during the D&C and the cervix is now closed and you have stopped bleeding, you can start trying to conceive, once again, after you have a normal period. There is no treatment for "irregular shedding of the endometrium" or "endocervicitis" and it is normal at the end of every cycle. Don't worry, and good luck.
