QuestionI counted days from when I had sex until yesterday when I took the pregnancy test(april 14) and it has been 24 days. The pregnancy test showed negative. It was a first response EPT test. As I said, my period is irregular, and I have not felt any symptoms. My normal period is around the 15th thru 18th. I spotted on March 25, not the 26th. I had a regular period February 17-19. I didn't have a period in January. I spotted on December 24th. I had a regular period November 21-24. You are right about the withdrawal, I know. It was strange, I felt nothing during sex and didn't have an orgasm. Anyway, was the test taken too early? I would be feeling something by now if I was pregnant-the two times I have been pregnant before, it was early when I noticed about this time, and I was so nauseated. I will make an appointment to get some bcp to get the stuff regulated. Do you think I need to take another pregnancy test next week? I figure 4 weeks, I should be able to know, shouldn't I? The last time I was pregnant in January of 2003, it was around this time that i found out i was pregnant before.

Question -
I am a 34 year old, slightly overweight female, I have had a miscarriage and an abortion. I had my thyroid completely removed on November 25. My last sign of a real period was on November 24. I had no bleeding after that day. On December 24, I spotted one day. I didn't have a period in January. I had a regular period on February 17. So far, in the month of March, I have not had a period. I take 200 mg of synthyroid. I did bleed or spot one day, and only used one tampon. It was not heavy. That was on March 25. I have not had sex except once, and that was on March 26, and my partner wore a condom the first chance, and after that we had sex twice after that, but before he ejaculated each time, he pulled out. Never was the sperm inside me. He pulled out and spilled on the bed, and some on my stomach, and the next time, he spilled out on my butt cheek. We cleaned up after each time. There is not anyway that I could be pregnant, I am sure. But I was wondering about my cycle. I have been going through some changes in life with work and location and all. I also am 30 lbs over weight, and am exercising now, riding an exercise bike regularly. What do you think about the cycle? And also, should I take a pregnancy test or is it to osoon? It is April 13.
Answer -
Certainly,if you have not had a normal period in March, you should take a pregnancy test. If it is negative at this time, you are not pregnant. YOu may have irregular periods due to being 30lbs overweight, although that is not very much. You definitely sound like you have some hormonal imbalance and may benefit from a course of birth control pills to regulate your cycle. I would not trust the withdrawal technique of birth control because there are around 300,000 sperm at the tip of the penis prior to ejaculation and, when he withdraws, these sperm can be "milked" out into the vagina and you can, indeed, conceive.
AnswerA pregnancy test will show a positive result if you are pregnant and take the test 24 days after conception, so since the test was negative, it is doubtful that you are pregnant. There really is no need to repeat the test. If you do not get a period next month, I would repeat the test seven days after missing your period. If it is still negative, you are definitely not pregnant. I would definitely consult with a gynecologist.
